AL East: Rice awaits opportunity as Stanton absence lingers

As Yankees camp opened, the team provided a disconcerting medical update on its designated hitter, Giancarlo Stanton. New York stated that Stanton, who is experiencing discomfort in both of his elbows, is considered uncertain to be ready for Opening Day. Stanton, who has reportedly not swung a bat for about four weeks, said he played through the issue last season. After manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday that a return to baseball activities is not imminent, NJ.com’s Randy Miller reported that Stanton flew to New York to undergo testing with the head of the Yankees’ medical team, Dr. Christopher Ahmad. However, when asked about this report, Boone denied this was the case, stating Stanton was back in New York...
