The last time that we looked at George Lombard Jr., the 17th-ranked prospect in our 2026 Midseason HQ50, in this space, the Yankees’ top prospect had just landed on the Triple-A IL after seemingly turning a corner in his offensive performance. Lombard Jr. has since made his return and made his presence known quickly, homering in each of his two rehab games in the Florida Complex League as well as his first game back for AAA-Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 17.

While Lombard Jr. was sidelined, he also received a notable endorsement from GM Brian Cashman. According to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, Cashman stated on July 9 that Lombard Jr. “might be a choice at some point” in the second half of the season, while...
