AL East: Is Hoffman losing his grip on the Jays' closer role?

In Sunday’s loss to the White Sox, Jeff Hoffman suffered his fourth blown save of the season. Hoffman entered the game with two outs in the eighth inning, inheriting two baserunners. The game quickly unraveled from there, though, as Hoffman walked the first batter he faced, committed an error that allowed one run to score, then allowed a two-run double.

On the season, Hoffman’s ERA now stands at 5.29, though his skills (3.11 xERA, 25.6 K-BB%) paint a much more optimistic picture. Hoffman’s performance and skills have both dipped of late, though. After a dominant start to the season (1.17 ERA, 38.9 K-BB% through April 30), Hoffman has taken a step back (9.00 ERA, 16.5 K-BB% since May 1).
