Lynn remains in rotation as Carpenter reportedly nears return

STL entered September 14 with a two-game lead for the NL's second wild-card playoff berth, and its starting rotation in flux. Lance Lynn's (RHP, STL) six-inning PQS-5 September 13 win has secured him at least one additional start. Banished to the bullpen amidst a second-half fade, Lynn made an emergency start replacing injured Jake Westbrook (RHP, STL).

Westbrook will likely sidelined until the season's final week, meaning he is likely to miss at least two more starts. Lynn could even finish the season in the rotation if he continues to impress. Lynn's 3.62 xERA suggests he has pitched a bit better than his current 3.95 ERA.
