Sandoval breaks hamate; out 4-6 weeks

Pablo Sandoval (3B, SF) exited Wednesday's game with an injured hand after a sixth-inning AB; tests on Thursday revealed a broken left hamate bone and the Giants placed him on the 15-day DL. If this sounds familiar, Sandoval broke the hamate bone in his right hand in 2011. He missed 41 games last season, which makes the 4-to-6 week timetable for his return seem optimistic at best.

Sandoval has been one of the Giants hottest hitters in the early going, only going hitless in two of the team's first 24 games. Through his 95 AB, he was on a career-high pace with a .314 xBA and 89% ct%, while supplying ample power (5 HR, .537 Slg). Note that he had a monster power 2H in 2011 after...
