Shoulder troubles for Nova
Iván Nova (RHP, NYY) reported shoulder stiffness after his start on Tuesday, a dismal outing in which he allowed 6 ER in 6 IP at CHW. He has been sent back to New York, where tests revealed an inflatmed rotator cuff. At this point, he'll miss his next start and a DL stint is a strong possibility.
Nova's results in 2012 (4.92 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) have taken a step back from his fantastic 2011 campaign, but his skills have taken a decided step forward. Improved Ctl and Dom has resulted in a 2.8 Cmd, and his xERA has gone down, too—from 4.02 in 2011 to 3.82 in 2012. The culprits? Slightly unfortunate hit rate (34%) and out-of-whack hr/f (16%, leading to a 1.4 hr/9).
Nova's injury dovetails...
