Red Sox sign Napoli

The Boston Red Sox signed Mike Napoli (C/1B, BOS) to a three year, $39 million contract.  Napoli will play 1B for the Red Sox, but he should still find enough playing time behind the plate to keep him catcher-eligible.  He may also fill in at DH on occasion.  After hitting .320 with 30 homers in 2011, Napoli slipped to .227 last season with 24 homers.

There are several ramifications of the signing for Napoli's projected performance. First, if he remains healthy, he could reach the 500-AB plateau in Boston.
