Middlebrooks suffers fractured wrist
Will Middlebrooks (3B, BOS), who in any non-Trout season would be a surefire Rookie-of-the-Year finalist, suffered a fractured right wrist when struck by an Esmil Rogers pitch on Friday night in Cleveland. Middlebrooks was in a 6-for 31 slump but was still batting .288 with a .835 OPS, both figures third on the team among position regulars. The severity of the break was to be determined on Saturday, but early speculation is that Middlebrooks may have seen his last action in 2012.
Although Nick Punto (3B, BOS) played the final inning in Middlebrooks’ place, five extra-base hits in 110 AB (.200 BA) won’t earn him much PT. The Red Sox have summoned Danny Valencia (3B, BOS)...
