Markakis to DL with broken hamate bone
Nick Markakis (OF, BAL) was diagnosed with a broken hamate bone on Thursday and will undergo surgery Friday morning. Markakis had been bothered by a sore wrist for a little over a week, and reported that he had "tweaked" it further after his final at-bat in Tuesday's game. The swelling worsened the next morning, and the outfielder sat out Wednesday's game.
Markakis was in the midst of what appeared to be a power surge, as he had eight HR in 199 AB, after averaging 15 HRs and 637 AB over the past three seasons.
