NEWS: The Boston Red Sox activated 1B Triston Casas from the 60-day injured list and designated 1B Dominic Smith for assignment.

BHQ SPIN: On his 11-game rehabilitation assignment with AAA-Worcester, Casas went 12-for-40 (.300), with eight of those hits going for extra bases, so he should be ready to rock ’n’ roll. Casas, a popular preseason breakout target, wound up missing just under four months after tearing cartilage in his rib cage. He should resume his role as the team’s everyday first baseman, perhaps spelled occasionally by C Connor Wong or utilityman Romy González against a tough lefty.
