ROTISSERIE: The value of volume

Quality or quantity? Many difficult lineup-setting decisions boil down to this choice. Do you start the better hitter whose team is scheduled for five games in the coming week or the less-skilled hitter with a seven-game week? Do you roll the dice on a marginal (or worse) two-start pitcher or go for quality over quantity with a better one-start pitcher or a highly skilled reliever? While we face it most frequently in setting lineups, the quality vs. quantity question also factors into draft, trade, and waiver decisions: When making such decisions, how should we value “compilers,” whose value depends in large part on playing time volume? When and to what extent should we forego volume by prioritizing “skills over roles”?
