ALTERNATIVE: Sterling Darvish: Pitching tiers in points leagues

When developing a strategy for pitching in points leagues, you must first determine your league’s Runs Against Replacement (RAR) or Points Over Replacement (POR). By calculating how many starters from each position count towards your stats, you can properly value pitchers and other players.
We will assume a simple format of fifteen points for a win, seven for a save, and one for each strikeout. Hitters, to be discussed next week, will get one point for each total base, run, RBI, stolen base, and walk. We will omit catchers from our reference of hitters for most purposes as they will need their own adjustments. We will discuss them in the hitting tiers article next week.
