ALTERNATIVE: Bellinger tops a weak Simulation draft pool

Each year you hear a similar refrain from us to win in simulation formats (Strat-O-Matic and ABPA)—if you plan to win now, trade draft picks for current known quantities. Each year features few good cards for the current season. If they are good, often the players are part-time anyway. No draft class reinforces this phenomenon more than the one coming off the 2017 season. While it features some great long-term talent, it features little help for the upcoming season.

The dearth of starting pitching talent particularly plagues this draft class. None have gone inside the top ten in any of the early drafts. Luis Castillo (RHP, CIN) has an Average Draft Position of 11 for less than half a year of good starting pitching. At least Castillo can...
