When evaluating pitchers in points leagues, our usual methods of deciphering luck from skills through ratio categories gets minimized. In points leagues, it’s all about luck sometimes whether your hurler gets credit for the win or the save. Instead, we focus on the things we can predict more accurately – playing time and strikeout rate. This gives us a baseline. Then we know that pitchers who pitch deeper into games or more often are more likely to nab that elusive win or save. Finally, we can target pitchers who have a better chance to win or save games by playing on better teams with stronger bullpens.
