The players that will occupy the Padres lineup on a regular basis this season aren’t much of a mystery and haven’t been for nearly the entire spring. The order in which that lineup is constructed, however, is less clear. AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reported manager Bob Melvin all but told reporters that Fernando Tatis Jr. (SS/OF, SD) would hit atop the order after he completes the final 20 games of his 80-game PED suspension. Following him is likely to be Juan Soto (OF, SD), Manny Machado (3B, SD), and Xander Bogaerts (SS, SD) – perhaps in that exact order.
While Tatis is sidelined, it would make sense for one of the remaining trio to take over as the leadoff hitter. If we are to take anything from recent spring training...
