(*) STARTERS: Mid-season sell high targets 2014

We've focused most of the first half of the season on identifying buying opportunities among starting pitchers.

The mid-season mark is a good time to identify SP that you should consider selling high on. To do so, we'll look for guys with strong surface stats but ugly underlying indicators.

Let's use the variance between expected ERA (xERA) vs. actual ERA to identify these overperformers:

  • xERA vs. ERA*

    Name                League  ERA   xERA  Diff
    ==================  ======  ====  ====  =====
    Young, Chris            AL  3.23  5.42  +2.19
    Kahnle, Thomas          NL  2.18  4.07  +1.89
    Buehrle, Mark           AL  2.52  4.25  +1.73
    Matsuzaka, Daisuke      NL  2.68  4.36  +1.68
    Duffy, Danny            AL  2.69  4.31  +1.62
    Hale, David    ...
