(*) RELIEVERS: 2012 Sleepers

This sleepers column has some overlap with columns the past few weeks, as we seek relievers who have a shot at a closer role and greater value than their current price tag. By its very nature, this column looks at relievers with strong skills (like the LIMA column) and relievers with weaker options in front of them.

Perhaps the most obvious combination of these is Vinny Pestano (RHP, CLE) in Cleveland:

                   IP Dom Cmd HR/9 xERA BPV
==========        ===  ====  ====  ====  ====  ===
C.Perez            58   7.8   1.9   0.9  4.31   40
Pestano            73  10.4   3.1   0.5  3.27  114

Pestano has the huge 10.4 Dom, 3.1 Cmd and a low 0.5 HR/9—skills to be a top shelf closer. He just needed a shot, and now Chris Perez...

Almost!
