None-on/runners-on splits, 2024

One approach to identify potential surgers is to split their skills and analyze the extremes to determine if the player could be a tweak away from finishing strong. As we did with starting pitchers last week, looking at stats and skills with the bases empty compared to with runners on base is one way to do this.

Our research shows that both batting average and plate discipline surge when a batter hits with runners on base:

Interestingly, batters hit the ball with less authority once runners reach base, likely due to their desire to make any kind of contact over hitting the ball hard:
