MINORS: East Asia players 2021 update

Starting in 2008, the Baseball Forecaster has included information about Japanese players, and eventually expanded coverage to Korea and other areas of East Asia. (This year’s article is on page 241.) The main purpose is to help guide those in keeper/dynasty leagues in getting a jump on international players who can be more advanced than younger rookies and who may make the move to MLB soon.

As noted in last year’s update, this can be extremely difficult to predict accurately. Not only must you evaluate talent, but you also have to deal with a posting system which highly restricts the free agency of their players. It’s not helpful to discuss the best player in Japan or Korea if there is little chance he will be coming to MLB in the near...
