The Astros recalled the 26-year-old after placing Jordan Schafer on the disabled list. The right-handed hitting Barnes is experiencing a breakout season with the bat and has hit for a high BA at both Double-A and Triple-A. Prior to this season, he was known mostly for his outstanding defense in CF. He possesses well above-average instincts and takes excellent routes to the ball. His range is good thanks to his solid-average speed. He also has the arm strength to play any outfield position. Barnes doesn’t project well despite his offensive production in ’12.
