SPECULATOR: Musings from the 2017 Futures Game

As a writer who often focuses on the minor leagues, I’d probably normally bristle at the conflation of "prospects" and "speculation." After all, while there is a projection that takes place when writing about minor leaguers and what they might contribute to your fantasy teams over the long haul, there's gotta be more to it, right? It's not like a shot-in-the-dark proposition.

But in this column, I'll put self-justifying pride aside and will mix the two—prospects and speculation—as I put together some thoughts form this year’s Futures Game on Sunday, July 9 at Marlins Park. Any minor league all-star game is a treat, a place to view a group of a league's best players on one field without having to travel to every affiliates’ home park....
