SPECULATOR: Mayberry Method doppelgangers

A couple weeks back, Brent Hershey penned some handy insights on using the Mayberry Method (MM) as an in-season tool. Focusing mainly on free agent acquisitions, the column also sparked an idea for this space. In true Speculator fashion, we’ll take a slightly different approach to try and squeeze even more value out of in-season MM: through player comps.

At the core of Mayberry is the ability to embrace imprecision in its component skills analysis. By boiling down each player’s skills to a four-digit code, we can quickly group together those with similar profiles that might have vastly different perceptions in the marketplace, or have significant gaps in their YTD surface stats. We’ll call them our Mayberry Doppelgangers.
