SPECULATOR: 2016 September shutdown candidates

You know the feeling—it’s mid-September and you’re in the thick of a fantasy title race. Pitching categories are tight, and your overall score fluctuates on a nightly basis, depending how many pitchers you, or your opponent(s), have starting.

And then you get the notification, or see it along the MLB Network ticker: Your young starter, whom you picked up in the second half JUST as he was putting all his raw talent together, is being shut down for the season. Previous injury; young-pitcher innings limit; team wanting to look at the September callups, it doesn’t matter, the fact is that one of your key cogs won’t be joining you on the stretch run.

Sometimes we have the inkling the shutdown could happen; sometimes we don’t. But it sure...

Almost!
