Between the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Gonzalez had surgery on his left shoulder to repair a torn labrum. While this surgery is not considered routine, the recovery for position players is much more positive than pitchers. In fact, the success of Hanley Ramírez, Justin Upton and others after the surgery led the Red Sox and others to believe Gonzalez would not see a drop in production. That was true last season, but what about 2012?

So far, his slugging percentage of .392 is the lowest of his career that includes a shocking 54.6 AB/HR ratio, A closer look at other ratios tell a different story. His IF/FB% is 14%, double what his norm is. This suggests his swing has been altered.
