Dr. HQ: Two Red Sox hit the DL, plus injury updates

Shane Victorino (OF, BOS)
Injury: Strained left hamstring. Victorino couldn’t seem to shake this ailment with a few days off.
DL date: May 21
Estimated DL time: The Red Sox don’t think his DL stint will last more than 15-18 days.
Estimated 2013 effect upon return: His base running could suffer a bit early in his return.

Will Middlebrooks (3B, BOS)
Injury: Lower back spasms. It doesn’t appear the spasms are disc-related or connected to the ribcage ailment he suffered earlier.
DL date: May 24
Estimated DL time:  The Red Sox medical staff believe they can clear up this malady in the near term. He shouldn't miss much more than the minimum 15 days.
Estimated 2013 effect upon return: None expected
