Injury: Herniated cervical (neck) disc; surgery on May 23.
DL date: May 22
Estimated DL time: Recovery is 12-16 weeks, likely ending his 2014 season.

José Abreu (1B, CHW)
Injury: Posterior tibial tendinitis. The posterior tibial tendon runs down the inner side of the ankle just under the "ankle bone" (medial malleolus) and attaches to bones in the foot. The inflammation in the tendon causes weakness in the foot; to the point the player may have "flat foot." This causes pain and a reduction in function.
