THE BIG HURT: Carryover effects of 2018 injuries

The single best predictor of future injuries may be past injury history. One study, by Baseball Prospectus, suggests that a pitcher with an injury in the previous season may be 15 times more likely to have a similar injury in the current season. Other studies have linked leg injuries, such as ACL strains and hamstring strains, to future injuries.

Beyond just basic odds, though, there are players whose injuries from the prior season are likely to have lingering effects in 2019. Some are already expected to miss some time, while others may start the season ostensibly healthy. This article will discuss several players whose 2018 injuries could affect their 2019 performance.
