The Diamondbacks were rightfully buyers at the trade deadline despite a disastrous month of July that saw them go 6-12. While they once appeared to have a chance to battle the Dodgers for the division crown, they’ll likely have to be more focused on maintaining a wild-card spot across the last two months of the season. The rotation is a significant weakness after Zac Gallen (RHP, ARI) and Merrill Kelly (RHP, ARI), but the team has few paths to improvement after not adding to the position at the trade deadline. Instead, they’ll hope for some improvement internally, and Slade Cecconi (RHP, ARI) is one option as he is set to make his big-league debut in the coming days.
