PT TOMORROW: NL East—Zimmerman to play LF, 1B and 3B

Washington Nationals

Ryan Zimmerman (3B, WAS) returned on June 3 from a fractured right thumb and got the start in left field for the first time in his major league career. The team also plans to play him some at first base and third base. The thinking is that playing left field and first base will take some of the strain and workload off of his ailing right shoulder.

Obviously, this should give the team a nice boost in left field. Since losing Bryce Harper (OF, WAS) to a left thumb sprain on April 27, the team has used several players in left field and gotten very little in the way of power from the position (.275 with 2 HR, 6 RBI in 131 AB).

Time will tell exactly how much playing time Zimmerman will see in left field once Harper...

Almost!
