Eddie Butler (RHP, CHC) has not impressed during his first four starts since his call up as an injury replacement for Brett Anderson (LHP, CHC). Butler has walked 13 batters, while striking out 14 over 18 IP.

After Anderson’s dismal start to the season (5.20 xERA and 1.3 Cmd over six starts prior to going on the DL), Butler had the opportunity to cement himself as the Cubs’ fifth starter, but it appears he might have wasted it. Anderson has thrown a few bullpen sessions and might not be far away from a return. Whether he returns to the rotation when healthy or the Cubs elect to stick with Butler remains an open question.

The status of minor league options has changed little from the review in this space on May 20. Triple-A...
