Updating a March 30 note in Playing Time Today, the stay of Erasmo Ramírez (RHP, TAM) will reportedly extend longer than initially believed—and may even involve some save chances.

Local press reports indicate that the team plans to use pitchers other than Ramirez on the few occasions the Rays will need a fifth starter while closer Brad Boxberger (RHP, TAM) continues to recover from his core-muscle injury.

Names mentioned for that role include last year’s primary fill-in starter, Matt Andriese (RHP, TAM), who gave up only one run in his eight spring innings (6/2 K/BB), and top prospect Blake Snell (LHP, TAM), who was optioned out of major league camp in mid-March after yielding 3 ER in 4 IP (5/4 K/BB).
