NL West: Say it ain’t so, Joe

San Diego Padres

For those looking for a Joe Musgrove bounceback in 2026, there might be reason to lower expectations. Although Musgrove underwent TJS all the way back in October of 2024, the pitcher himself doesn’t yet seem to be confident in how his body is recovering. In a recent interview with the Friar Territory podcast, he acknowledged that expecting him to make 32 starts and pitch 180+ innings in 2026 is simply not realistic. He also reported that he has been slower to recover in the days after he pitches than he’d like to be.

Perhaps his most concerning point was his prediction that he would likely be on the IL for the sake of rest and recovery at some point during the season, if not to start the season then at some point...
