The Pittsburgh Pirates opened their season with a wild game against the Miami Marlins where the Fish walked off the Buccos and provided some outstanding drama for MLB's Opening Day. It also highlighted one of the weaknesses for the Pirates straight out of the gate.

Last year's Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes threw 5.1 innings of three-hit, two-run baseball in his 2025 debut. The flamethrower struck out seven and walked two. He left the game with a lead and a shot at a Pirates Opening Day win—if only the the bullpen could hold the lead. The closing situation in Pittsburgh might be coming to a head sooner rather than later.
