NEWS: The Red Sox acquired 1B Willson Contreras from the Cardinals for RHP Hunter Dobbins and two lower-level minor league pitching prospects.

BHQ SPIN: Contreras is expected to hit in the middle of the Red Sox order and serve as the team’s primary first baseman after the team struggled to get consistent production from the position upon losing 1B Triston Casas to a season-ending injury last season. As he has headed into his mid-30s, Contreras has been experiencing a decline in his walk rate, Eye and hard contact, though as BaseballHQ contributor Sara Sanchez noted on X, he should be helped by the move to Fenway, where a number of his flyouts may well have been home runs or doubles....
