Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (thumb) is expected to miss six weeks, the team announced Thursday, July 10. He will have surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb Friday, July 11.  Source: ESPN.com
 
BHQ take: Schumaker and Ramon Santiago are likely to see the bulk of 2B PT in Phillips' absence. Minor league journeyman Kris Negron was promoted from Triple-A and could see occasional PT there. Schumaker's increased PT at 2B could open more OF PT for Chris Heisey. Schumaker and Santiago cannot match Phillips either offensively...
