NEWS: Chicago agreed to terms with 1B/DH Trey Mancini on a two-year contract.

IMPACT: Medium

BHQ SPIN: Although Mancini spent some time in the outfield last season, indications are that he will get the bulk of his at-bats with the Cubs at either designated hitter or first base. Coupled with the addition of Eric Hosmer, Chicago’s signing of Mancini drastically decreases the chance that Matt Mervis breaks camp with the big league club. Mervis will now likely begin the year with AAA-Iowa, with an opportunity to eventually force a midseason call-up. Assuming Mervis begins the year in Triple-A, Chicago now has four players (Mancini, Hosmer, Patrick Wisdom, and Christopher Morel) for three regular lineup...
