Smyly back to DL, Turner recalled

What was initially believed "normal" soreness has turned into a second DL trip in a month for Drew Smyly (LHP, DET). The updated diagnosis is an intercostal strain, which will force him to miss his July 17 scheduled start against LAA . The DL move is retroactive to July 7, which would allow Smyly to miss just that one scheduled turn, but Tiger manager Jim Leyland said it looks doubtful at this point he would miss just one start. Smyly felt discomfort during his July 6 start, but did not believe the issue to be serious until attempting to throw on Friday and feeling substantial pain when releasing pitches.
