Hammel to DL, Britton to debut for BAL

Jason Hammel's (RHP, BAL) absence from the BAL rotation will be much longer than originally anticipated. Hammel underwent surgery to remove loose cartilage from his knee Monday, and despite an initially-projected 3-4 week recovery time,  BAL Mgr Buck Showalter speculates that he'll next pitch again in September.

Even in the absence of Hammel, the BALkanized (pun intended) Oriole rotation-go-round is tough to project going forward -- except in the near-term, with Chris Tillman being recalled to start vs. MIN on Monday, Zach Britton (LHP, BAL) on tap to make his 2012 MLB debut on Tuesday, and Tommy Hunter the likely starter on Wednesday.
