Kimbrel returns to beleaguered Atlanta pen

NEWS: The Braves called up Craig Kimbrel and Dylan Dodd, placed Daysbel Hernández on the 15-day IL, and designated Scott Blewett for assignment.

BHQ SPIN: Kimbrel has been pitching well for Gwinnett on a minor league deal: 2.45 ERA with 17 strikeouts, but eight walks, in 14.2 innings. He has 440 MLB saves, but until recently it seemed unlikely he would get a chance to close for Atlanta. It’s still unlikely that he’ll ultimately end up as Atlanta’s closer, but the team’s bullpen struggles, including those by incumbent closer Raisel Iglesias, may be opening the door to Kimbrel getting some save opportunities.
