NEWS: C Luis Campusano is expected to open the season as the Padres backup catcher.

BHQ SPIN: C Freddy Fermin, who the Padres acquired last season from the Royals, is locked in as the Friars starting C, but Campusano (25% PT at C and 5% PT at DH) looks like he will break camp as the backup. With highly-regarded prospect C Ethan Salas still likely at least a year away from an opportunity at the MLB level, and C Elias Díaz and C Martín Maldonado both having departed, it appears as if Campusano will get another chance with the Padres to start the season.
