Staying focused after a grueling five months of ball can be difficult unless our teams – both in fantasy and real life – have a horse in the race. Those no longer in contention for a fantasy baseball league championship have either shifted their focus to fantasy football, or are daily fantasy baseball grinders, looking to take advantage of the nuances of the final four weeks of the season. On September 1, major league teams expand their roster to 40 players. Developing hitter and pitcher prospects will have an opportunity to showcase their talents – particularly, those on teams who are no longer in the hunt for a playoff spot, or are in the process of rebuilding.
