Were it not for his appearance against the A's on Sept. 9 last year, Guduan’s 2017 MLB numbers would look serviceable. Instead, after that five-BB, five-ER, one-hit performance, he walked away from his 22 appearances with a 7.88 ERA, 6.8 Ctl, 9.0 Dom and 1.3 Cmd over 16.0 IP. Much of this was to be expected, as our call-up piece highlighted last year: Explosive stuff, but a real problem knowing where it’s going. And what’s troubling about Guduan now a year later is that he’s all but lost the Ctl gains he had made last year (3.8 Ctl in June ’17; 5.6 now). He’s still...
