Now with his third team in three years, Layne was added to the Red Sox roster to provide bullpen depth for Boston’s double-header Saturday. Originally drafted in the 26th round (2007) by the Diamondbacks, the 6’2”, 190 pound lefty works with a 90-92 mph FB and average breaking stuff which effectively evades LHH while keeping the ball on the ground—58% GB% this year. While he still maintains good Dom rates against RHH, they still and have always hit him much better than LHH.
