This is the second in a series of articles that will help you incorporate Statcast metrics into the toolbox we use at BaseballHQ.com. Here, we will turn our attention to batters.
Our method will be to identify the BaseballHQ.com stats and metrics that have at least a moderate correlation (r 0.30) to the Statcast metric being studied.
Let's start by looking at the average exit velocity (EV) produced by batters to see how it might correlate with batting average, production, plate discipline, and some of the skills-based metrics we use for hitters at BaseballHQ.com.
