NL West: Birdsong gets a shot in SF rotation

The evolution of the 2025 Giants starting rotation continues, with 23-year-old RHP Hayden Birdsong joining twenty-six-year-old RHP Landen Roupp in the rotation. At 29-20 and just 1.0 game behind the Dodgers in the NL West, the Giants look to be making solid moves to field the best possible rotation.

Birdsong lost out to Roupp for the final spot in the Giants rotation out of camp, but opened the season in the Giants bullpen, where he was very effective, pitching to a 2.31 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 25 K and 10 BB over 23.1 IP. He made his first start on Tuesday, May 20, giving up just one unearned run and 5 H with no BB and 4 K over 5 IP, getting the win over the Royals.
