AL East: Rotation issues abound

Making a spot start for the Rays on April 13, Joe Boyle flashed his upside by posting a terrific line (5 IP, 0 H, 2 R (0 ER), 7 K, 2 BB). While the start may have cemented Boyle as the team’s next depth option in the rotation, he still returned to Triple-A following it. 

In Triple-A this year, Boyle has had an impressive season. In his most recent start on May 2, he had his best start of the year (6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 10 K, 0 BB), bringing his season line to a 1.73 ERA backed by a 23.5 K-BB% in 26 IP. Given Boyle’s past issues with control, the most notable aspect of his most recent start was the fact that he did not walk any hitters, a continuation of the downward trend of his BB% compared to last season.
