NEWS: San Francisco catcher Joey Bart was placed on the 10-day IL.

BHQ SPIN: The young catcher of the future landed on the IL with a back strain. This is an important season for Bart, who has yet to live up to the potential that earned him the second overall selection in the 2018 draft, so it’s unfortunate that he’s already off on the wrong foot. Towering right-hander Sean Hjelle was recalled to replace him on the roster and will join the relief corps. The team already employs two catchers on the roster (Roberto Pérez and Blake Sabol), so they won’t need to bring anyone up to replace Bart, but it is worth noting that the team recently inked Gary Sánchez to a minor league deal.
