Pressly becomes a saves target in Chicago

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Chicago Cubs
NEWS: Chicago acquired RHP Ryan Pressly from Houston in exchange for pitching prospect Juan Bello.
IMPACT: High
BHQ SPIN: Chicago fortified the back end of its bullpen with the acquisition of Pressly. The veteran right-hander comes to Chicago with extensive closing experience, having recorded 90 saves for Houston from 2021-2023. For now, the expectation is that Pressly will be the heavy favorite for saves in Chicago, though it should be noted that the team still could sign another reliever in free agency to create competition for the role. Porter Hodge, who was considered the favorite for saves in Chicago before the trade, is now likely to fill a setup role to open the season.
