Concerns over the health of Scott Baker's (RHP, MIN) right elbow surfaced again this week, as the pitcher was taken off his scheduled Thursday appearance. He had trouble getting loose in his previous start on March 10, and subsequently surrendered six runs on six hits in 1.1 IP. His velocity, normally around 91 mph, dropped to 83-86 in that outing.

While so many backstops come with some sort of caveat, Brian McCann (C, ATL) has been the rare catcher with the combination of batting average, power, and importantly, health. As he enters his age-28 season, is another repeat in the offing?

David Robertson (RHP, NYY) had an MRI and several tests on Thursday after spraining his right foot in a fall at his spring training home Wednesday night. Robertson was seen in camp with a walking boot, and although manager Joe Girardi downplayed the incident before Thursday's spring training game, afterwards he admitted some concern.

Ian Kennedy followed up a strong first season in Arizona with an eye-opening 2011. He notched 21 wins, compiled a league-best winning percentage (.840) with a sub-3.00 ERA and finished fourth in the NL Cy Young voting. He's a no-brainer atop the Diamondbacks rotation, but does he have the skills to be a true fantasy ace?

While everyone knows that a near-$50 season is next to impossible to repeat, many still held a shred of hope for Carlos Gonzalez (OF, COL) heading into 2011. And sure enough, he wasn't able to live up to his stupendous performance in 2010. But those who use the word "rebound" in anticipation of 2012 are asking the wrong question.

The Cardinals caught a lot of flack last off-season after signing the then 35-year-old Lance Berkman (1B/OF, STL) to play the OF. His durability and production had come into question after a down 2010, but Berkman stayed on the field (including 126 games in the OF) and proved the critics wrong.

One of the features of simulation leagues is that many formats make use of batter/pitcher platoon splits in some fashion. In Scoresheet, a platoon split factor is computed for every offensive player, based on how the player has performed against both RHP and LHP over the past two seasons. The list is here, and these factors are applied for every at-bat in the upcoming Scoresheet season, depending on the handedness of the opposing pitcher.

Though an ill-advised pickup basketball game cost him a month worth of starts, Zack Greinke (RHP, MIL) bounced back and completed a fine first season in Milwaukee—16 wins and a sub-4.00 ERA. Those stats, though, didn't do justice to his phenomenal skills season of 2011.

With the departure of Luke Scott and Felix Pie, the left field job in Baltimore is up for grabs as spring training begins. Manager Buck Showalter stated his preference that Nolan Reimold (OF, BAL) wins the gig—but is that news, or February noise?
