NEWS: Omar Narváez is headed to the IL with a calf strain, opening the door for the recall of Francisco Alvarez.
IMPACT: High
BHQ SPIN: Narvaez will be out eight to nine weeks, and the Mets have responded by recalling Alvarez, their top prospect and BaseballHQ.com’s #13 overall prospect. Alvarez has a career minor league OPS of .913, but his defense has been viewed as a work in progress. While Narvaez is out, Alvarez is expected to share time with Tomás Nido, who’s known more for his glove, and also see some time at DH. For now, we’re projecting Alvarez to play in one spot or the other 55% of the time.
